Raimon Alzamora Sanchez                                                                                            GRÀCIA - BARCELONA 14.3.1972

It was with great fascination that I watched my mother’s hands work a lump of clay into a small sculpture or decorative detail for a mirror and this is how from a very young age I had my first contact with the world of crafts. Experimenting at play in my mother’s ceramics workshop I discovered I could transform figments of my imagination into real life forms and figures. I realised that there are things in nature that hold a special appeal for me: precious stones and minerals, which captivated me even further when I saw my grandfather and my father in the workshop setting magnificent jewels into rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces.

I entered the world of professional jewellery in 1989.  I started as apprentice to one of the best mentors there are, my father Llorenç S. Vilagran, in his workshop in the Gràcia neighbourhood which he set up in 1967.  I needed to know more about the world of gemstones and became a member of the Asociación Española de Gemologia (AEG) (Spanish Gemology Association), where I attended various courses: Expert in Identification of Natural Gemstone Facets, Expert in Identification of Natural and Synthetic  Gemstone Colouring, Expert in Identification of Transparent Gems...

After eleven years in the trade, I joined what is currently the Col·legi Oficial de Joiers, Rellotgers i Gemmòlegs de Catalunya (JORGC) (CatalanJewellersFederationSchool) where I gave classes in casting from 2000 to 2007.  During this period I developed a passion for design along with my fellow jewellery teachers Toni Vinuesa and Josep Riera. I embarked on a new adventure, bringing to life my inner feelings, in the same way I had as a child, giving life to my imagination in clay.  The next step brought me to the works I offer today, fusing the sensations that life and nature offer me, with my own way of transforming them into material form. Everyone and anyone can wear and enjoy... that piece of an ocean, a ray of sunshine, a memory of a moment or that little bit of love, that awaken our emotions....
